DANCE-OSAURUS + Electronic Music + Study Abroad

Though Emory is better known for its academics and nice weather there is also nightlife and music to be enjoyed. Last night was the first "DANCE-OSAURUS"; a big dance party with lights, fog, massive speakers and yours truly in the DJ booth. DJ Carlos and myself provided the music for the night and I have to say that it was some of the most fun I've had since being here at Emory. So for those who didn't know, Emory does have dance parties and resident DJ's among the student population.

Tying back into electronic music, I'm taking a course on just that this semester and it's definitely one of the best classes I've taken here. We work in a studio with tens of thousands of (if not over 100 thousand) dollars worth of equipment and learn about the entire history of electronic music. After every style of music we learn, we compose a piece using the studio equipment and the techniques from that style. I've learned how to use pro-tools and reason so far - two of the most used programs in the recording industry - as well as how to create pretty much any sound you want by using filters and oscillators. I would highly recommend this course to anyone.

Last but not least in this entry: I'm going to be in Paris, France next semester! I just found out over break that I got nominated for the program at the American University of Paris and so that's where I'll be next fall. There are a ton of study abroad programs available either through the college or the business school and everyone I've talked to has had an amazing experience abroad. I'll keep the blog up to date from France but unfortunately won't be able to do too many tours.

I have three exams this week so I'd better get back to studying.

Questions? Concerns? Comments? Remember, I'm a tour guide and this blog is for you guys to find out about Emory so don't be shy now.

Here we go

So it's Spring semester already.  Here's what my schedule looks like:

Monday - Business Law (10:00 - 11:15)
  Chinese 102 (2:00 - 2:50)

Tuesday - Non-Profit Marketing (10:00 - 11:15)
  Biology 142 (11:30 - 12:45)
  Electronic Music (1:00 - 2:15)
  Chinese 102 (2:30 - 3:45)
  Jazz Combo Rehearsal (5:30 - 6:30)

Wednesday - Same as Monday except I also have biology lab from 6:30 to 9:30

Thursday - Same as Tuesday except no jazz combo rehearsal.

Friday - SLEEP IN (the business school has no Friday classes)

Just so you guys don't get freaked out, this isn't a typical business student's schedule: I'm doing pre-med, BBA and a music minor so this is my own fault.

Sorry I haven't been responding to your questions, I was in Brasil for all of Winter break and didn't have access to a computer most of the time.  If you guys want to ask me something feel free to look me up on Facebook (I'm the only Martim at Emory) or shoot me an e-mail.

Yo

Hey,

Sorry, but this is going to be a bit of a rubbish first post.  I need to run to a rehearsal right now but I'll post something more interesting later on.  Feel free to contact me if you guys have questions about Emory.
